Die Lern-App

Here we explain step by step how you can use your Lern-App to prepare for your theoretical driving test.

The Lern-App explained simply

At the beginning of your driving school training, your driving school will give you access to a Lern-App (Fahren lernen).

You can use this app to prepare for your theoretical driving test. There you will find the official test questions and can study for the theory test step by step.

Your learning progress is automatically saved and also sent to your driving school.

How to get your access

Your driving school will give you your personal login details.

You can then download the Lern-App from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

The name of the app is:

"Fahren lernen"

To log in, you need:

• your email address

• your personal password

Your email address is also your login name.

You can change the password you received from your driving school yourself later if necessary.

The Lern-App is available in different languages

The menu of the Lern-App can be displayed in different languages.

You can also study the test questions in the language in which you would like to take your theory test later.

The theory test itself is also available in different languages.

Important:

On the day of your theory test, you must tell the examiner which language you would like to take the test in.

What types of questions are there in the app?

In the Fahren Lernen-App, you will find different types of test questions.

These include, for example:

• normal text questions

• questions with pictures

• video questions

You do not have to write anything yourself - there are only multiple-choice questions. This means that you will be shown several possible answers, from which you have to select the correct answer.

Important: There can also be more than one correct answer to a question.

You must then select all the correct answers for the question to be answered completely correctly.

For video questions, you can watch the video several times before submitting your answer.

This allows you to observe the traffic situation carefully and think about what is important.

The different learning units

The learning material is divided into a total of 9 different learning units or subject areas.

First, you study the so-called basic material.

This is followed by the additional material for your respective driving licence category.

For example, if you are getting a truck driving licence, your learning path may look like this:

Basic material → Additional material Category C → Additional material Category CE (truck with trailer)

The areas you need to study therefore depend on which driving licence category you are getting.

Do I have to use the specified learning path?

No.

The app provides you with a learning path that allows you to work through the material step by step. However, you do not always have to follow this exact order.

You can also select individual topics or modules and study them specifically.

This is useful, for example, if you notice that you are still having difficulty with a particular topic and would like to practise this specific area again.

What happens to incorrectly answered questions?

If you answer a question incorrectly, that is no problem at all.

The app will show you the question again later so that you can answer it again.

You can also mark difficult questions yourself.

You will find these marked questions later in the “Üben” section and can practise them specifically.

This is particularly helpful for questions that you are repeatedly unsure about.

How can I see my learning progress?

Your learning progress is automatically saved in the app.

Once you have completed a subject area, this area will be displayed in grey. This allows you to quickly see which topics you have already completed and which ones are still missing.

It is important that:

Before you take your theory test, you should have answered all the test questions in the entire app at least once.

So it is not enough to study only some topics or particularly easy questions.

Can my driving school see my learning progress?

Yes.

Your driving school can see how much you have already learned and how far you are with your preparation.

This is important because your driving school can check whether you are sufficiently prepared before registering you for the theory test.

So you do not have to bring screenshots or proof of your learning progress – your driving school can view your progress itself.

Test simulation

Once you have studied a large proportion of the questions and feel more confident, you can simulate a test in the app.

You will be given questions similar to those in a real theory test and can check how well prepared you already are.

These practice tests last, for example, 45 or 60 minutes, depending on the driving licence category.

Test simulations are particularly helpful because you not only practise individual questions, but also get used to the situation of taking a complete test.

When am I ready for the theory test?

The Lern-App shows your learning progress using a traffic light system.

🔴 Red

You should continue studying.

🟡 Yellow

You have already learned quite a lot, but you are not yet fully prepared.

🟢 Green

You have reached a good level of learning and can coordinate with your driving school about registering for the theory test.

For registration for the theory test, your traffic light should be green.

You can find here: exactly how the theory test works, how many penalty points are allowed and what you need to keep in mind on the day of the test.

Uploading documents in the app

You can also upload documents and paperwork in the Lern-App.

These can include, for example:

• first aid certificate

• eyesight test

• other documents for your driving licence application

Important:

If you upload documents in the app, please also inform your driving school's office.

The staff do not automatically check every day whether new documents have been uploaded to the app. A short message lets the office know that new documents have been uploaded there for you.

Our learning tip

Do not try to work through as many questions as possible in a single day.

It is better to study smaller units regularly.

Use the options available in the app:

• repeat incorrectly answered questions

• mark difficult questions

• practise individual topics

• watch video questions several times

• regularly check your learning progress

• do test simulations

And most importantly:

Do not just try to memorise the questions, but try to understand why an answer is right or wrong.

Once you have worked through all the questions, repeated your difficult topics and your traffic light is green, you are well prepared for your theory test.
